Organized under a 4/4 time signature, the music exhibits a simple quadruple meter with 4 beats per measure. At ♩ = 75 BPM (Moderato cantabile), the pacing unfolds in a manner described as poised with natural rhythmic breathing. A core performance guideline: listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

This Beginner publication (novice keyboard curriculum (Alfred Level 1 / Bastien Primer)) serves as an instructive study in keyboard voicing. Pianists must address finding middle C quickly and coordinating simple two-hand question-and-answer melodies. Passages dominated by transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion benefit from conscious dynamic shading. Regarding pedal usage, use light, shallow pedaling to enhance acoustic warmth without muddling inner voices. Practice Tip: practice with a gentle arm drop from the shoulder, letting fingertips cushion the key bed softly.

Tonal grounding is defined by C Minor, marked in the score by three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, with B♮ raised leading tone). The music alternates stability on C with expressive harmonic excursions toward E-flat Major and its parallel relation, C Major. Harmonically, the progression Cm → Dm → G → C → F → E7 moves through balanced harmonic transitions (F, E7) reinforcing the tonal root. At the keyboard, C Minor provides an intense heroic key signature that commands deep shoulder weight on dramatic downbeat chords.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Autumn Waltz 2 is well matched for studio recitals, competitive festivals, and scholarly score readings.

Transposition Guide: To accommodate diverse vocal registers, accompanists can transpose the C Minor score: baritones rest easily in B-flat Minor, while lyric tenors and high soloists project effortlessly in D Minor.
