Positioned within the Advanced repertoire (senior concert repertoire level (RCM Grade 10 to Licentiate)), this work offers valuable training in balance and tone. Performers must concentrate on balancing complex polyphonic textures, negotiating rapid register shifts, and sustaining virtuosic momentum. Navigating contemporary broken triad ostinatos and resonant pedal points asks for deliberate finger weight distribution. To preserve clarity, feather the pedal to sustain bass notes without drowning upper textures. Preparatory Exercise: rehearse octave leaps with feather-light thumb releases, ensuring the arm propels the leap from the elbow.

Metric propulsion relies on 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), giving the piece a balanced metric groundwork providing grounded stability with primary weight on beat one and secondary stress on beat three. Set to a metronome speed of ♩ = 69 BPM (*Andante*), the overall character feels flowing at a graceful walking pace. Pianists should ensure that they avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.

Framed in C Minor, the score establishes C through a key signature featuring three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, with B♮ raised leading tone). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (E-flat Major) alongside strong cadential support from G Major. Harmonically, the progression Cm → Dm → G → C → F → E7 moves through balanced harmonic transitions (F, E7) reinforcing the tonal root. Pianistically, the key produces a brooding, powerful minor space that rewards strong fourth and fifth finger voicing in the melody.

When programming this selection, music educators frequently schedule Narnia for popular piano showcases, private lessons, and collaborative sessions. While engraved in C Minor, the work accommodates vocal adjustments readily: modulating down into B-flat Minor eases strain for baritones, whereas moving upward to D Minor highlights brilliance in soprano or tenor solos.
