Scandinavian Vals Medley Piano Sheet Music (Free PDF)

This Intermediate publication (transitional keyboard syllabus (ABRSM Grade 4 to Trinity Grade 5)) serves as an instructive study in keyboard voicing. Pianists must address achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. Passages dominated by contemporary broken triad ostinatos and resonant pedal points benefit from conscious dynamic shading. Regarding pedal usage, execute full pedal clears at dynamic changes to highlight intimate moments. Practice Focus: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.

Originating within the contemporary pop piano repertory, Scandinavian Vals Medley by A.I. Johnsen exemplifies structural economy and melodic clarity. Spanning 3 pages and 55 measures, its source material derives from accurate modern sheet transcriptions. Catalog registries document the score under identifier `mbid-05cd2182-sheetpdf` with ISWC `T-05C.D21.82-1`.

Framed in C Minor, the score establishes C through a key signature featuring three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, with B♮ raised leading tone). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (E-flat Major) alongside strong cadential support from G Major. Harmonically, the progression Cm → Dm → G → C → F → E7 cycles smoothly through harmonic steps (F, E7) back toward the tonic. Physically, playing in this key offers a commanding acoustic realm with abrupt dynamic contrasts between minor darkness and major relief.

In 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), rhythmic continuity is shaped by an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. The reference performance speed is ♩ = 111 BPM (*Tempo di marcia*), yielding a spirited with crisp finger articulation tempo profile. From a phrasing standpoint, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Scandinavian Vals Medley is well matched for contemporary vocal accompaniment, student recitals, and studio recordings.

Transposition Guide: While engraved in C Minor, the work accommodates vocal adjustments readily: modulating down into B-flat Minor eases strain for baritones, whereas moving upward to D Minor highlights brilliance in soprano or tenor solos.
