The Hidden Bible in a Concentration Camp: Corrie ten Boom’s Extraordinary Story of Faith
▶️ Don't miss this Song of the Day ◀️
During the darkest days of World War II, when millions faced fear, hunger, and despair, a small Bible became a source of hope for hundreds of women imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp.
This is the true story of Corrie ten Boom.
Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian whose family risked their lives to hide Jewish people from Nazi persecution.
In 1944, Corrie and her sister Betsie were arrested and sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp, one of the harshest camps in Nazi Germany.
Life in the camp was filled with suffering, sickness, and uncertainty.
Yet Corrie carried with her something priceless—a Bible.
Miraculously, despite strict inspections, the Bible was never confiscated.
Inside their crowded barracks, Corrie and Betsie began holding secret Bible studies.
Each evening, prisoners gathered to read Scripture, pray together, and encourage one another.
In a place designed to destroy hope, God’s Word became a lifeline.
Many women heard the Gospel for the first time within those prison walls.
Scripture spread from person to person like light shining in the darkness.
One of the most surprising parts of the story involved fleas.
The barracks were infested with them.
At first, Corrie struggled to understand why God would allow such misery.
But Betsie encouraged her to thank God for everything, even the fleas.
Only after the war did they discover the reason.
The guards avoided entering their barracks because of the infestation.
As a result, the secret Bible studies were rarely interrupted.
What seemed like a curse became God’s unexpected protection.
One of the greatest lessons from Corrie’s story is that circumstances cannot stop the power of God’s Word.
Prisons may confine people, but they cannot imprison truth.
The Apostle Paul wrote:
“But God’s word is not chained.”
— 2 Timothy 2:9
Even in one of history’s darkest places, Scripture continued to bring hope, courage, and salvation.
The story also beautifully illustrates the truth of Scripture:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Even the fleas that caused discomfort played a role in God’s greater purpose.
Often we cannot understand why difficulties enter our lives, but God sees the complete picture that we cannot see.
Corrie ten Boom survived the war and spent the rest of her life sharing the message of forgiveness, faith, and God’s love.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that Your Word cannot be chained and Your presence never leaves us, even in life’s darkest moments. Help us to trust You when we cannot understand our circumstances and to give thanks in all things.
Fill our hearts with faith instead of fear, hope instead of despair, and peace instead of worry. May Your Word be our strength and guiding light today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
