Today’s Bible Reflection: “Be Still, and Know That I Am God” (Psalm 46:10)
Bible Verse of the Day
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
There are seasons when life feels louder than ever.
Our phones never stop buzzing. Our calendars stay full. Our minds race from one worry to the next. Even when we finally sit down to rest, our thoughts often refuse to slow down.
That is why this simple verse has become one I return to again and again.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
It’s only ten words, but sometimes they feel like exactly what my heart needs to hear.
For a long time, I misunderstood this verse. I thought “be still” meant doing nothing. I imagined it was about finding a quiet place or escaping the busyness of life.
Now I see it differently.
God isn’t simply asking us to stop moving.
He’s inviting us to stop carrying everything as though it all depends on us.
There’s a big difference.
I can’t control tomorrow.
I can’t change someone’s heart.
I can’t predict what next week will bring.
But I can choose to trust the One who already knows.
That realization has brought me peace more times than I can count.
Whenever anxiety starts taking over, I often ask myself a simple question:
“What am I trying to control that I should be placing in God’s hands instead?”
The answer isn’t always easy.
Sometimes it’s my future.
Sometimes it’s my family.
Sometimes it’s dreams I’ve prayed about for years.
Yet every time I surrender those things to God, I discover something unexpected.
Peace doesn’t come from finally having every answer.
Peace comes from remembering who is in control.
And that’s exactly what Psalm 46:10 reminds us.
It doesn’t promise a life without storms.
It reminds us that God remains God—even in the middle of them.
A Simple Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Today I choose to be still before You.
There are worries I’ve been carrying that have become too heavy for me. There are questions I cannot answer and situations I cannot fix.
Help me remember that You are already working, even when I cannot see it.
Teach me to replace fear with trust, hurry with peace, and anxiety with faith.
Give me the wisdom to focus on what You have placed in front of me today, while leaving tomorrow safely in Your hands.
Thank You for being the same faithful God yesterday, today, and forever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
A Small Challenge for Today
Before you reach for your phone tomorrow morning, spend just one quiet minute with God.
Read Psalm 46:10 again.
Take one slow breath.
Then tell Him the one thing that’s been weighing on your heart the most.
You don’t need a long prayer.
You just need an honest one.
Sometimes, that’s where peace begins.
Sometimes the greatest reminder of God’s presence isn’t found in extraordinary moments.
It’s found in the quiet moments when we stop striving long enough to remember that He has been holding us all along.
If this verse encouraged your heart today, consider sharing it with someone who may also need the reminder:
Be still. God is already there.
