The Healing My Heart Needed Most

Scripture
“Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” — Matthew 9:2 (ESV)
There are seasons when I ask God to change my circumstances, yet He quietly begins by changing my heart.
The man in today’s Gospel was carried to Jesus because he couldn’t walk. Everyone expected Jesus to heal his body. But instead of speaking to the man’s physical condition first, Jesus spoke to the deepest place of his need:
“Take heart… your sins are forgiven.”
I’ve often wondered how surprised everyone must have been. They came hoping to see a miracle they could witness with their eyes. Jesus gave a miracle that happened first in the soul.
That reminds me of my own life.
Sometimes I focus so much on the problems I can see that I forget the burdens I carry inside—guilt I haven’t fully released, regrets I quietly revisit, fears that keep me from resting in God’s grace.
Jesus sees those hidden places.
He knows that a heart weighed down by shame can become just as paralyzed as a body that cannot walk. Before He restores our strength, He often restores our peace. Before He changes our circumstances, He reminds us that we are loved, forgiven, and welcomed back into His presence.
The healing Jesus offers has always been greater than physical restoration. He heals what no one else can see. He mends what years of regret have broken. He lifts burdens that no amount of determination can remove.
The more I follow Christ, the more I realize that forgiveness is not simply something He gives—it is one of the greatest ways He heals us.
Today I want to receive that gift again with an open heart. And because I have been forgiven so generously, I want to extend that same grace to others.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for seeing the wounds that no one else notices. You know the burdens I carry, the regrets I still remember, and the places in my heart that need Your healing.
Thank You for speaking words of forgiveness before words of correction. Thank You for reminding me that Your mercy is always greater than my failures.
Please heal every part of me—my heart, my mind, my thoughts, and my relationships. Help me to walk each day in the freedom You have given me, leaving behind guilt, fear, and shame.
And as You have so graciously forgiven me, teach me to forgive others with the same compassion and love.
